The IRS Extends Tax Deadline for Victims of Texas Winter Storms

The IRS Extends Tax Deadline for Victims of Texas Winter Storms

The IRS extended tax deadlines for all Texas residents and businesses from April 15 to June 15 because of the winter storms and the damages they brought.

According to the recent disaster declaration issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the IRS is providing this relief not only to the disaster victims but also to the entire state. This tax relief postpones all the deadlines starting February 11.

The extension also allows Texas residents to use more time to complete other tax-related filings, such as estimated tax payments, payroll tax returns, and contributions to Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA).

The delay will be applied automatically if a taxpayer is registered in the disaster area. There is no need to apply for filing and penalty relief.

Please note that a regular 6-month extension that makes your new deadline October 15 does not extend the time to pay your tax bill.
