If you are a U.S. citizen living in Switzerland, you may have found yourself in the middle of a political firestorm between the U.S. Treasury and your Swiss bank. As a result, your Swiss bank may request a written statement declaring that you’ve filed your US taxes & declared your Swiss bank account. That would be the good scenario. The bad scenario (as we are now learning from our Swiss clients) involves the bank freezing your account until you demonstrate to them proof of having filed the US taxes.
If you are a U.S. citizen in Switzerland, we strongly urge you to be proactive and get your U.S. taxes normalized before things come to a head. We've helped hundreds of clients in the same situation and know exactly what to do. We can also provide you with a written affidavit confirming your compliance with U.S. tax laws.
